REMEMBER ME: Tyler ( Robert Pattinson ) and Ally ( Emilie de Ravin) meet at NYU in 2001. Both have baggage. His brother killed himself and her mother was murdered. The drama- a far cry from the vampire stories of Twilight allows Pattinson to show broad emotional range. But the script is rife with cliches, and the sex is so artily lit it seems direct from cable. Plus, the film never finds a consistent violent opening to its morbid finale.
GREEN ZONE: It's 2003 in Iraq, and Army officer Roy Miller ( a buff, heroic Matt Damon ) can't find any weapons of mass destruction, so he decides to investigate for himself weather the bombs existed in the first place. The loud, documentary-style thriller, directed by Paul Greengrass ( The Bourne Ultimatum ), confusingly weaves fact and fiction and whipsaws between various conspiracy theories, while the nonstop action mimics an Xbox splatter game. Be cautious before entering this zone.
SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE: In this sophomoric romantic comedy, nerdy airport security officer Kirk ( Jay Baruchel) can't believe his luck when blonde bombshell Molly ( Alice Eve ) falls for him. The Problem? Bad advice frm Kirk's pals leads to various dating disasters ( cue the hilarious manscaping scene). While the film doesn't compare to any of Judd Apatow's home runs ( Baruchel costarred in Knocked Up). it has some heart mixed in with the frat boy humor.
OUR FAMILY WEDDING: When a biracial couple ( America Ferrera and Lance Gross ) tell their families about their engagement, everything goes away is this formulaic flick. Her dad ( Carlos Mencia ) and his ( Forest Whitaker ). take an instant dislike to each other-natch and the plot erups in racial conflicts ( and food fights ). Leading up to the big day. One particular low point: A goat at the wedding ( A mexican traditional ) swallows Viagra and runs amok. hahaha!!!
UP IN THE AIR: This bittersweet recession tale which earned six Oscar nods feauture George Clooney at the top of his game as Ryan Bingham, who travels at the U.S to lay off workers. But when his boss opts for a fire by computer scheme developed by a young manager ( Anna Kendrick ) Ryan is grounded- and his life unravels. His crisis echoes that of the people he axes, and clooney achieves a muted level of emotion that's devastating. It is, simply put a contemporaray classic.
BANDSLAM: A geeky music fanatic ( Gaelan Connell ) moves from Cleveland and enters a New Jersey high school, where he falls for a guitar-playing goth girl ( Vanessa Hudgens ), who sings rock and thrashes about. Although the plot runs thin, The teen comedy is filled with fun performances.
BROKEN EMBRACES: Penelope Cruz plays a wannabe actress in this twisty Pedro Amodovar melo drama about a blind scree wroter ( Luis Homar) putting together the pieces of his tragic past. In Spanish with english substitle, the film moves easily back and forth in time thanks to Almodovar's suave direction.
